Freeview is the cheapest and easiest way to enjoy digital TV.
There are no monthly
contracts or subscriptions to pay, it is absolutely free.
Freeview offers around 90 digital TV channels and over 20 radio stations each with
better picture and sound plus text and interactive services. Freeview is easily available
through your standard television ariel so there is none of the extra cost of satellite
dish and installation.
Most TVs today come supplied with Freeview tuner built in. But if you have an older
TV that does not have a built in Freeview tuner you will need to make a one off payment
for a Freeview digital set top box or a DVD recorder or hard disk recorder with Freeview
tuner built in, plug it into your TV and you are ready to receive Freeview digital
channels. Most Freeview set top boxes have SCART sockets to connect to the TV. So
ensure your TV has a SCART socket.
The Northeast will switch over to digital transmissions by 2012. This is happening
region by region and transmitter by transmitter by a process known as 'digital switchover'.
Once Our region switches over to digital you will need to convert or upgrade your
TV to receive digital signals through your aerial.
